the beaded trim is made of wood and glass. i had ordered it quite some time ago from equilter.com – and it seems it just has been waiting for this piece;)

seit langem habe ich eine schachtel voller zigarrenboxen im keller liegen – vor ewig mal auf dem flohmarkt gekauft. leider sind die meisten ziemlich klein (10x11cm), aber eine ziemlich große hatte ich nun anvisiert… (ca. 23×26 cm)
es bizzelte mich nämlich, etwas mit dem frida-stoff zu machen, den ich kürzlich von equilter bekam.

it was meant to become a “day of the dead”-shrine… colorful in the mexican tradition.
i took acrylics for everything except the tags.
the quote on the tags is the mexican translation of frida´s words: “feet, what do i need you for, if i have wings to fly”

es sollte ein “dia-de-los-muertos” schrein werden… farbenfroh, wie das in mexiko der brauch ist.
ich hab für alles acrylfarben verwendet (mit ausnahme der tags).
der spruch auf den tags ist die mexikanische übersetzung von fridas worten: “wozu brauche ich füße, wenn ich flügel zum fliegen habe”

frida is cut from the fabric with some allowance around the figure, which i colored with the same paint as the box for seamless blending when glued in.
the red sun (on the green corrugated cardboard) refers to a painting of frida: “el sol y la vida” (the sun and the life)
the vases at the bottom are silk cocoons and i especially love the paper calla lilies.

die frida ist aus dem stoff ausgeschnitten (mit zugabe) und der rand um frida mit der gleichen acrylfarbe bemalt wie die schachtel, damit sie nach dem aufkleben nahtlos ineinander über gehen.
die rote sonne (auf der grün bemalten wellpappe) verweist auf ein kunstwerk fridas, “die sonne und das leben”.
die “vasen” am unteren rand sind gefärbte seidenkokons, die papiercallas liebe ich besonders.

outside:the saying at the front “la casa azul” translates: the blue house. that´s where frida lived – a museum today. it has red framed windows…
the fabric cut-outs of the day-of-the-dead skeletons are from equilter as well. the background textstamp is from rubber baby buggy bumpers.

außen steht vorne am schreindeckel “la casa azul” – “das blaue haus”, in dem frida lebte; dieses haus, in dem sich heute ein museum befindet, hat rot gerahmte fenster, deswegen auch hier die roten rahmen. die stoffausschnitte der “tag der toten”-skelette sind ebenfalls von equilter. der textstempel “dia de los muertos” ist von rubber baby buggy bumpers.

so, why is that piece qualified for this week´s wednesdaystampers challenge?
i had sewed frida onto foam backing, to give her more dimension – i didn´t want her to lay that flat in the box;)

und wo ist jetzt das genähte, damit sich das stück für die mittwochstempler qualifiziert?
ich hatte die frida auf schaumstoff aufgenäht, damit sie ein bisschen mehr volumen hat und nicht so platt in der schachtel liegt;)
