the PAF showcase is back from the holidays break and the first photo of this year comes from my garden – first snow a few weeks ago (actually we had almost no snow so far this winter. but then… i don´t really miss it…).

i called my photo for this week´s PAF – showcase “bakin´ craze” (below you see the original picture i took on a christmas fair last week, above the altered version with blending mode lighter color and font bleeding cowboys).

i remember the days when the kids were little and enjoyed our chrismas baking. actually for me it was always a bit stressful, too, as we only have a very small kitchen… meanwhile i enjoy the luxury of buying the cookies at my trusted confectioner;) [and no, i do not miss the smell enough to accept the stress therefore;)]

ich liebe ausstechformen (und hab auch eine ganz nette sammlung davon), aber backen mag ich eigentlich nicht (mehr). unsere küche ist definitiv zu winzig, als dass mir das spaß machen würde. als die kinder klein waren gehörte die weihnachtsbäckerei natürlich dazu… aber ich gestehe, dass ich sie schon auch immer etwas stressig fand. mittlerweile gönne ich mir einfach den luxus und kauf mir die plätzchen beim konditor meines vertrauens;) [nein, ich vermisse den duft nicht so sehr, als dass ich mir dafür den stress dafür einhandeln würde, den so manche kampfbäckerin in meiner bekanntschaft hat... in meinem gekauften sortiment liegen viel mehr sorten, als ich in hundert jahren backen wollte... kann mich gar nicht locken;)]

das abgebildete foto (unten im original), das ich letzte woche in münchen auf dem christkindlmarkt gemacht habe, ist bearbeitet mit der blending mode lighter color und als schrift habe ich meine geliebten bleeding cowboys eingesetzt.

photo art friday challenges us this week: “For the next edition of Photo Art Friday let’s go back to challenging ourselves to try some edits we have been wanting to try, but have felt were too hard or that we just haven’t had the time for. The photo art could be produced from following a tutorial or simply the result of some creative play with new photo art tools and techniques.”
so what i did this week was exploring brushes. excessively. (if i like doing something, chances are good i will do it excessively;))
now i can say: i have a new obsession! so far i loved textures, now i love textures and brushes!!

well, for my piece i took a background from jessica sprague, placed an edited photo of a seed on it and the rest is all: brushes!! the net, the spider, the number, the danger label… all brushes!! can you tell i´m addicted??!!
and even better: meanwhile i made some cool mailart brushes myself. but more of this in another post to come…

this week at PAF the suggestion is: “to link up a piece of photo art sitting in your archives that never received the ‘attention’ it deserved”

again i played with the new textures from nancy donaldson (i really was challenged with the first one… found it hard to find a picture fitting the “knitted & drawn” texture…). and with these i can also show my “go-to” technique (for PAF) i use on almost every photo: i am switching through all blending modes and searching the one that appeals to me most, AND: i often use a layer mask to brush a part of the pic free from texture. so here: the flower and the ladybug are “brushed free” several times.

the ladybug photo is a homage at our domestic species of these insects (the red ones with the seven black spots). currently we have an invasion really with the asian species (harmonias), which are a little bigger (and colored in some variations) and probably will become a problem for our native ones. i found this one on my walk last week, the whole sunny edge of the forest densely populated with the harmonias.

took twice the text layer from nancy donaldson for this one plus another one from flickr, and brushed free the beetle from each texture.
dieser einheimische siebenpunkt ist eine homage an unsere marienkäfer, die gerade heftig verdrängt werden von der etwas größeren asiatischen art. zwar sind diese auch nützlich hinsichtlich blattlausvertilgung, aber “unsere” find ich viel schöner… vielleicht nostalgie, denn schon aus unseren kinderbilderbüchern waren sie nicht wegzudenken… letzte woche war ich auf meinem spaziergang am sonnigen waldrand wieder eingekreist (ja nicht den mund aufmachen! super lästig!!) von den “zugezogenen” und umso erfreuter, doch auch noch einen “eingeborenen” zu finden…

PAF – nov 4th – 6th

i often work quite cumbersome in achieving a certain result (to tell the truth: too lazy to read or explore instructions…). same here. i found the grid background somewhere online and thought that looks awesome. couldn´t figure out how to get my photos into the rounded edges. so i gave my pics a black ttv-frame first, then i could fiddle them into the black placeholder. sure there are better methods;) but as i said: cumbersome. that´s what i am sometimes. but i get my results;)

the colored splashes are brushes, easy to make.

when i shot the blossom photos in spring i had no idea that i would dig into photo-editing this year. and i enjoy it so much!

PAF – oct 28th – 30th & a little break

for PAF i could´t decide which alteration of my seed photo i liked better…

my next post won´t be before middle of next week… i´m away for a stamping retreat for a few days with some members of the munich stamping group. i will ink, stamp, cut & glue and mess around to my heart´s delight… no pc, only working with my hands – i plan to make some journal pages and scrapsquares, which i neglected a bit recently…

so i´m in great anticipation and hope you will have a great week, too!

bis mitte nächster woche verabschiede ich mich mal aus blogland… ich fahre mit ein paar anderen mitgliedern unserer münchner stempelgruppe auf einen stempeltreff in ein hotel im voralpenland… das ist immer eins meiner highlights des jahres – kein pc, aber die stempel qualmen lassen, nach herzenslust schneiden und kleben, alles liegen lassen können – beste verpflegung, kurze nächte… möchte ein paar journalseiten machen mit meinen file foldern, die ich im sommer besprüht habe, auch scrapsquares habe ich in letzter zeit kaum gemacht… bin voller vorfreude und hoffe, auch ihr habt eine schöne woche!
