the upcoming theme for take-a-word is blackbirds… so i made this storyboard with photos of the magpie my cat killed recently. positioned some bodyparts on spray painted backgrouds and arranged the squares digitally.
(the biologist in me knows that magpies belong to the bird-family of corvidae, but the “real” blackbirds are turdidae. but both are in the order of passeriformes… so far about things you did not want to know *g*)
This is, again, a fabulous design. I have been reading about Magpies recently as we have a lot of them locally. I love your use of your cats kill! Nothing goes to waste in the hands of the artful. pen x
You clever person you! I love the way you used your photos…..and thanks for the biology lesson!
wonderful photos and paint work Joahanna. I love the color samples with the text in it on the side too.
Thanks for de bird lesson
Johanna, sorry I mistyped your name…
Ha wieder mal was gelernt bei Dir. Danke Dir dafür und das tolle Raster.
Sieht grandios aus.
Oha, jetzt bin ich wieder etwas schlauer…..
Deine Kreation ist jedenfalls super, Johanna. Gefällt mir sehr gut.
Wonderful compostition. I love that you took advantage of your cat’s “offering” to make art with!
Fabulous! Thanks for sharing it.
great piece Johanna!
Oh my, I feel sorry for the magpie but this just proves something good, and so very good, can come out of a bad event. It’s beautiful, Johanna!
I saw this yesterday Johanna and thought it was really cool! I got a bit distracted though!! I’m not surprised you are a teacher… as one to another, we speak the same language!!
This is fabulous. What a beautiful design and colours.
Wonderful photos and paintwork.
Genius.

Mal wieder große klasse!
Johanna, I think there is a bit of a Magpie in all of us Artists Who Alter! This ended up being a really superb piece of art. Bravo!
A great piece Johanna. Nothing wasted! xx
I’m with you, Johanna, trying to sort out blackbirds, ravens, crows, red-winged blackbirds….they all get lumped together, but they are very different birds. Anyway, your “square” spproach is brilliant, though I’m feeling a bit sorry for the magpie!
Love the way you’ve used your ‘cat’s kill’ in your colourful piece of art, Johanna, brilliant creativity!
What a fantastic interpretation of the subject. Great work!
Well, this is my favorite. That’s for sure. So unique (your story) and creative done !
Love this, Johanna!
Oh I adore Magpies and your pictures are fabulous what an original and beautiful entry!!!
Wow, what a fabulous piece! A science teacher with an artful eye – cheers!
Perfeito!!
Lindo!!
Meu abraço.
